Rhapsody in Blue*

Bringing forward the New York post because Thursday is Australia Day and as much as I adore New York, it would be disloyal of me to be gushing about another country on this country's special day.

New York, Sunday the 18th of September, 2011

The girls decided it was about time we went shopping and "Times Square" seemed like the perfect place to do this.
Although we knew it would take 30 to 40 minutes, we decided to walk there so as not to miss anything along the way. "Broadway" runs from one end of Manhattan to the other and was situated about 2 minutes walk from our apartment, so we simply followed it until we got to our destination.
What an amazing walk! We saw so much and our excitement level increased as we walked closer to the heart of New York City.
Times Square lived up to all expectations - exhilerating, colourful, loud, pulsating with excitement and completely wonderful.
The girls shopped and shopped. Had a break for lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe (burgers, fries, shakes and hot fudge sundaes). Shopped some more.
Before we realised, it was early evening so we began the long trek home, this time along beautiful Fifth Avenue.
Unanimous moans about our aching feet when we finally sat down in the apartment but it was totally worth it.

M and M store. Walls and walls of every colour and flavour imaginable.
Love the mix of old and new buildings.

First Empire State Building sighting.

The Plaza Hotel
*Watch the opening sequence of Woody Allen's movie "Manhattan" on YouTube.( Too exhausted to link this after uploading all these photos!). I kept thinking of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue when I was in Times Square.
