Catching up

On Sunday, C and I had a lovely day out with my sister and family. Delicious lunch, followed by the  Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performing the music from "Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers".
Just wonderful.

Not much else to report..

Watching various plants starting to bud gives me great pleasure.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain

I watched "Amelie" again at the end of last year because it's beautiful and heartwarming and whimsical and because it's set right where we're staying in Paris - in Montmartre. Here are some screencaps from the movie. Can't wait to see these locations in person in a few weeks.
Abbesses, the closest Metro Station to our Paris apartment.

Rue des Trois Freres

Rue Saint Vincent, Montmartre

St Martins Canal

Boulevarde St Martin

Sacre Coeur

Cafe des 2 Moulins, Rue Lepic

A few more random shots....

Audrey Tautou is just gorgeous. Tempted to take Z's red and white polka dot umbrella with me so I can wander around the streets of Montmartre just like this....

A movie and lunch

I'd wanted to see the movie "Hitchcock" ever since I found out it was being made. C was keen also but, amazingly, had never seen "Psycho", knowledge of which is essential in order to appreciate a movie about the making of "Psycho".
C finally watched "Psycho" towards the end of last year, so yesterday, off we went to see "Hitchcock".
We both enjoyed it, although it wasn't quite what we'd expected. We somehow had the impression it would focus more on the actual film production when it was really more about the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife Alma (Helen Mirren).
We really enjoyed Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of Janet Leigh.

But of course, the undisputed star of the show, Helen Mirren, could do no wrong, and completely stole every scene in which she appeared.
Definitely an unusual movie, but worth seeing.

Afterwards, C and I went here for lunch.

Poached eggs with avocado and fetta mash.

French toast with poached plums, berries and yogurt.
Delicious.

Holly

So much for not watching movies for a while.
"Breakfast at Tiffanys" is an annual treat and has been for more years than I can say.
Most people have seen or at least know of this iconic film which is guaranteed to make you feel better if you are suffering from the "mean reds"or even just the blues for that matter.
Audrey Hepburn is divine as the outwardly free-spirited but inwardly troubled Holly Golightly.
Such charisma, and she looks gorgeous in every outfit she wears including a draped sheet and a men's dress shirt. Stunning.

...... and "Cat" is the best cat ever. My lifetime adoration of ginger moggies began when I first saw this movie as a teenager.

One of the greatest parties in movie history. Hilarious.

How does she do it? Plainest outfit ever and she looks amazing.

George Peppard is pretty cute too.

Have watched this scene about a hundred times and it still brings tears to my eyes.
