Empire State

New York,  Thursday the 22nd of September 2011

Another subway trip to the centre of the city where our first stop was the incredible "Empire State Building".

My legs went weak just looking at this building from the ground. Unfortunately, my fear of heights prevented me from going up to the top and C was similarily unenthusiastic. However, nothing was going to stop E and Z from seeing the view from the top, despite being warned that it was a "limited visibility" day.
E took these photos from the observation deck.

It was a very misty, overcast day but I love the look of these photos. The city looks surreal.
Two weeks later C and E were back in New York after visiting Philadelphia and Washington DC.
They went to the "Top of the Rock" (Rockefeller Centre) and had amazing views of the Empire State Building from there. ( Centre of photo below)

You really can't appreciate how tall that building is until you see it towering above the rest of the city.

 These pictures emphasis how huge New York City really is and what a tiny part of it we actually saw.

Anyway, while E and Z were up enjoying the view, C and I enjoyed coffee at Starbucks (on the ground floor of Empire State) and a spot of shopping at Macy's.

Then we met up with the girls and had a great time mingling with the stars at Madame Tussauds.
We saw so many famous faces.

In E's opinion, this one was the best by far.

After lunch (McDonalds) we hit the sidewalks again and admired the sights.

Couldn't resist the delicious cupcakes from the Grand Central Station Magnolia Bakery.

Home again after another wonderful day. After relaxing for a while, we ventured out for dinner at a lovely local restaurant - Sarabeths on Amsterdam Avenue - and ate the best meal of our New York stay. A perfect end to the day.
